Mt. St. Helens' Forested Slopes

This minor steam event at Mt. Saint Helens was photographed on November 4 from the southwest by the US Geological Survey. The volcano's slopes are forested except on the north side where the 1980 eruption laid waste to thousands of acres of Douglas firs, cedars and hemlocks.
As you drive north on I-205 to the Portland Airport, you can see a similar view of MSH from the freeway. On one trip to the airport, I was so taken with the scenery, I missed my exit and was crossing the Columbia River into Washington before I realized my error.
