Fire Tower Lodge

Mary Beth and Ben will snow shoe to a fire tower in Mt. Hood National Forest today and begin a 3 night stay atop a 40 foot tower in a 14' x 14' cabin (Ali will stay with her The Dalles grandparents). There is no electricity or running water, though there is a propane burner and a wood stove. Sounds exhausting. . . and fun. But I'd probably want to use a snow mobile.
If you want to see some of the details of the accommodations, go to Recreation Rentals of the Pacific Northwest and scroll down to Clear Lake Lookout; click on the link named 'Rental Summary.' Your web browser should start downloading an Acrobat file. And for a topo map, see TopoZone - Wapinitia Pass (OR).

UPDATE: Weather for the week was spectacular. And the wildlife was exciting, specifically an elk bugling and a cougar prowling. Here's a shot they took from the tower of their view one day.

And here are a couple of others.
