Dead Zone Diary

The Dead Zone is an area in the northern Gulf of Mexico that has no life, at least during the summer, due to a lack of oxygen. Whether this area is the result of human activity or is a natural phenomena is uncertain. In fact, it's dimensions have not been well established.
Houston Chronicle environment writer Dina Cappiello joins researchers from Texas A & M and LSU aboard the research vessel Gyre this summer. See her blogs at the Dead Zone Diary.
